The tree is native to North America, Europe, northern Asia, and Japan. I’ve included below links to some superhero themed resources that might be useful if you wanted to do your own lapbook and also some ways to extend the work that we did. Resources Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - Hello and welcome to my little corner of the internet. I'm Sarah, mum to three children (Oct 2012, Feb 2014 & June 2016). We are a home educating family based in Greater Manchester. Here I share about our Home Ed journey, days out, books and activities and well as my quest to stay sane by running and hitting the gym! Amongst other super people, thye identified their Grandma and Grandad because they play jewellers with them (a game where the children set up a jewellery shop, my mum comes to ‘buy’ things then my dad appears as a robber and steals things. Much hilarity ensues). They then also listed doctors, nurses and midwives, police officers, fire officers etc. I was really pleased they could identify a range of people who help us and the reasons they’re super.

Depending on the species, the seeds they produce take 1–3 years to develop. The impermeable coat of the seed keeps water from getting in and protects the embryo when dispersed. It can also result in a long dormancy that is usually broken by physically damaging the seed coat. Dispersal can occur from being swallowed whole by frugivores and mammals. The resistance of the seed coat allows it to be passed down through the digestive system without being destroyed along the way. These seeds last a long time, as they can be dispersed long distances over the course of a few years. [4] Classification [ edit ] Juniper needles, magnified. Left, J.communis ( Juniperus sect. Juniperus, needles 'jointed' at base). Right, J.chinensis ( Juniperus sect. Sabina, needles merging smoothly with the stem, not jointed at base) Cones and seeds Sections [ edit ] In some species (e.g. J. communis, J. squamata), all the foliage is of the juvenile needle-like type, with no scale leaves. In some of these (e.g. J.communis), the needles are jointed at the base, while in others (e.g. J.squamata), the needles merge smoothly with the stem. All medications prescribed by Juniper clinicians have been approved for use in Australia, and are commonly prescribed by GPs for the treatment of weight management. We have been reading Juniper Jupiter this last week and I wanted D and E to have a think about what makes someone super. They’re not massively into superhero’s and the such but they really enjoyed this book. I must admit the author, Lizzy Stewart, holds a special place in my memories as we read her first book, There’s a Tiger in the Garden the day before H arrived and it holds some lovely memories for me. We read Juniper Jupiter, and used it as inspiration to make our own superhero lapbook Drought resistant: Most junipers offer at least some level of drought resistance, making them a good choice in more arid climates. But precautions should be taken in areas prone to wildfires. Some Indigenous peoples of the Americas use juniper in traditional medicine; for instance the Dineh (Navajo), who use it for diabetes. [22] Juniper ash has also been historically consumed as a source of calcium by the Navajo people. [23] [24]Miller, Richard F.; Svejcar, Tony J.; Rose, Jeffrey A. (2000). Figshare. doi: 10.6084/m9.figshare.14547354.v1. {{ cite journal}}: Cite journal requires |journal= ( help) Found in the mountains of California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington, the western juniper (also known as the Sierra juniper) provides food for a variety of wildlife throughout the year, especially birds such as cedar waxwings that feast on the berries. The wood was used for many different tasks during the pioneer era. This plant generally grows as a large shrub or small tree, with its growth habit determined largely by the conditions in which it grows. It is widely distributed in the wild but is rarely planted as a landscape specimen.

Juniper in weave is a traditional cladding technique used in Northern Europe, e.g. at Havrå, Norway. [30] California juniper is usually found as a large shrub in the Southwest, though it can sometimes grow to be a medium-sized tree in the wild. It features scale-like blue-gray leaves and reddish-brown cones. In landscaping, it is used to create wildlife habitats and in drought-tolerant gardening. It is very tolerant of alkaline soils and is often used to provide erosion control on dry slopes. It is also often used in bonsai.

Next we filled in a super me template as I wanted the children to be able to identify their own super qualities. Next they created their own super hero. D created the Monkey Maker – special powers being that they ‘magic monkeys to people who are sad’ and E created the jumping gymnast who jumps over baddies. We then finished with some activities from Twinkl including a wordsearch, a counting sheet, a graph and a fill in the missing numbers worksheet. We collated all these into our superhero lapbooks.
