in the Red Lion Hotel in 1851. The first Open Golf
Championship was played at Prestwick Golf Club in
1860 and was won by Wullie Park.

Robert The Bruce visited this well to drink its healing
water to cure his skin disease.

Salt Pan Building In these buildings salt was extracted
from the sea water for curing and preserving food.

Prestwick Airport (Now
Glasgow Prestwick International) The airfield was developed
in 1935. Founder members David McIntyre and The Duke
of Hamilton were the first men to fly over Everest.
During the second world war Prestwick airport saw up
to 250 aircraft stationed and in transit to other U.
K. bases.

Freeman's Building Built in 1844 this building was
a meeting place for the Freemen of the burgh. The
building now operates as the registrars office.
The Mercat Cross and War Memorial The Mercat Cross sited at the Main
Post office, the cross has been moved a few times
over the years for various reasons. Also in the background
is the war memorial.
