About this deal

When I turned the gimbal for the first time, the stabilization was smoooooth and refined. The defaults are a “just right” setting that gives you the feeling you are guiding the camera where you want it to go, totally intuitively and without any sense of lag. You can “float” your way through any walkable space with this stabilizer and get a great result. I found the iSteady X handles more predictably than other stabilizers, without the annoying drift I’ve experienced with some (many) others I have tried. And with the Hohem Pro app you can fine-tune all the parameters needed to customize the gimbal to your specific needs. Performance-wise the iSteady X does well; as long as you are slow and smooth, this mobile gimbal will perform well. You need to practice as the stabilisation isn’t as robust as DJI OM4, but then this is a fraction of the price. In the hands, the iSteady X is definitely lightweight and it’s easy to believe its claim as the ‘world’s lightest gimbal’.

Hohem ISteady X - Gimbal Chống Rung Nhỏ Gọn, Siêu Nhẹ Cho Điện Thoại, Nhận Diện Khuôn Mặt, Tự Động Lấy Nét, Hoạt Động 8 Giờ The iSteady X (below) is much more compact than an average-sized smartphone gimbal (above) Stabilization Performance There is a slight downside to this design, however, which is that the maximum range of motion in the Y-axis is slightly more limited than the old-fashioned gimbal arm design. In 99% of cases, you won’t be nearing those limits, but it’s worth pointing out. Specs and Phone Compatibility Weight First and foremost is the vertical movement (tilt); you’ll see this displayed in the sample footage. While the stabilisation is generally good, there were a few moments where the motors are slow to respond, and even putting the response speed too fast doesn’t correct this. There are two different timelapse modes. One is just the straight regular “Timelapse” which shoots an image at whatever interval, and the other is the Smart Motion Timelapse, which allows you to combine this interval with a gimbal movement using a set of various options. Both of these modes just spit out a video file, not a series of individual stills. But it has its power button on the side right where the hook of the head grips your smartphone. This means that sometimes, it will accidentally press the power button and turn the phone off while you’re in the middle of doing something. It’s not the worst design I’ve seen, though.

Gimbal Stabilizer for Smartphone, 3-Axis Phone stabilizer

Activation seems to have become the norm with all new gimbals these days (and not just smartphone gimbals). It’s done through the Hohem Pro smartphone app ( iOS/ Android) which accompanies the gimbal. Until you activate the gimbal, the motors won’t even fire up, so it’s a mandatory part of the process. Overall the app doesn’t haven’t the polish and refined user experience of the DJI Mimo app, but it’s on par and in some cases better than other gimbal apps. iSteady X vs iSteady Mobile Plus There’s no argument that the iSteady X works well for the price and that the app is one of the most fully-featured on the market. To connect, enter directly to the APP and select your Gimbal Model: "iSteady Mobile+". Please do not connect it to the smartphone bluetooth, just the APP. Somewhat counterintuitively, the record button takes a photo when you press it once. To actually start or stop recording video, you need to press it twice. Pressing it three times will switch between your phone’s front and rear camera. Inception mode isn’t quite as full-featured as we’ve seen in larger gimbals, but that’s to be expected on a folding smartphone gimbal. They’re not designed to spin a full 360° in all three axes, but they do have a pretty decent amount of rotation to let you shoot a short inception clip. That added extra is the unique gimbal design that enables ultra-wide mobile lenses to be used alongside standard ones. This negates a common problem with gimbal arms often appearing on the edge of wide-angled footage.
