Some Information on the History of Prestwick
Prestwick has existed for over 1,000 years and is the oldest Royal Burgh in Scotland.
Prestwick Airport was extensively used by the armed forces of the United Kingdom and The U.S. Air force during world war two.
Fans of Elvis Presley flocked to meet him at Prestwick Airport in 1960. The only visit of Elvis to UK shores albeit during his travels in the US armed forces.
- St Nicholas church is the
oldest ruin in Prestwick
- Bruce's Well - Situated next to St Ninians church
Robert The Bruce visited this well to drink its healing
water to cure his skin disease.

- Salt Pan Building - In these buildings salt was extracted
from the sea water for curing and preserving food.

- Freeman's Building - Built in 1844 this building was
a meeting place for the Freemen of the burgh. The
building now operates as the registrars office.

- The Mercat Cross - sited at the Main
Post office, the cross has been moved a few times
over the years for various reasons.

Prestwick Golf Club was formed in the Red Lion Hotel in 1851. The first Open Golf Championship was played at Prestwick Golf Club in 1860 and was won by Wullie Park.
